Where are they now: Martin Vasquez

Martin Vasquez was only in San Jose for one year, 1998, after two seasons with the Tampa Bay Mutiny. He was an unremarkable player on a pretty poor team; he made 24 starts and never scored a goal for a side that went 13-19. It was his last year in MLS.

So, where is he now? We're not sure of his whereabouts at this exact moment, but on July 1 he'll be in Munich, serving as Juergen Klinsmann's assistant at Bayern.

From the story at teamtalk.com:

"I have known Martin since 2003 when he was a coach at an elite camp in the USA," said Klinsmann.

"I was impressed by his positive style of leadership and his passion.

"I am lucky that he will now work alongside me at Bayern."

Hmm, Vasquez was at Tampa Bay at the same time as Frank Yallop. Wonder if Bayern has any up-and-comers they might loan out to the Quakes for a season?

Your ignorance on not only the sport of soccer, but Martin Vasquez, is hillarious to me. You're forgetting that he is only person ever to play for Mexico and USA. He's made his name evident as a starter for both those national teams and will continue to do so in Germany as an assistant coach.

I'm glad that Mr. Vasquez has friends who Google his name and stick up for him on blogs. When he played in San Jose, the Clash finished just out of last place, he was 34, and it was the last year of his career. You can't get much more unremarkable than that, no matter what preceded it or what has come after.
