Introducing John Doyle, general manager of soccer operations

That's the big news from the Fairmont: John Doyle is the new general manager of soccer operations for the San Jose Earthquakes.

As promised, you can find the audio of the event here (MP3, 10.2 MB).

Also, the team introduced a slightly revised logo for 2008 as well as the new black home and white away kits. Here is Earthquakes president Mike Crowley and new GM John Doyle with the '08 home shirt.

Here's one more: they brought back former Quake Ian Russell to model the new shirt.

And finally, if you'd like to see the away kit, it's here.

Nice threads. I prefer the blue, but it looks alright. Now, if they can introduce that as the alternate shirt then a lot of the traditionalists will be appeased, or satisfied.

The one knock is the "San Jose" block--however it seems that Wolff and company wants to keep some of the traditional elements yet make it go forward in their own direction, hence the "subtle or not" change/update.

However, once the team gets a front shirt sponsor then the "San Jose" print becomes rather moot. Still, there has been a bit of bad luck when San Jose teams wear black--remember 1997 to 1999? ;)

At least, we're moving in the right direction--a small bump but getting there. Most important, it's not as garish compared to the new Sharks makeover.

I don't know whether to be relieved that our jersey doesn't totally suck like Houston or LA's old ones. Or upset it doesn't feature our team color as the primary color. Why isn't it blue like this one.

The previous logo was (and still is) better, but the new one isn't that bad, I suppose. It does need the seismographic line running through the word "Earthquakes", though.

Nice picture, Dan, but I'd change the black socks to blue socks. Otherwise, right on! :)

Haha, that's the picture I quickly made in Photoshop for a BigSoccer user! They wanted to see what it would look like if they reversed the colors, so I did a rough job (didn't have time to change the color of the socks).

I don't know, for me the color is fine, but that Word Art 'San Jose' has to be changed; hopefully that won't be a problem if they get a sponsor.

The one thing I don't like is having San Jose on the home jerseys and Earthquakes on the road jerseys. When you're playing at home, it should be obvious where you are from ... when you are on the road, you should promote where you are from.

Ugly colors. Give me our blue! But, hey we have a team, so I shouldn't complain too much :)

Black kit would be a fine 3rd jersey for US Open Cup and other non-league matches.

Please return to home blues, that was good enough for two MLS Cups and that's the tradition we want to link to.
