So long to a wonderful season
As longtime watchers of the beautiful game know, anything can happen in a cup competition and the best team doesn't always win. All that can be said with certainty is that the ball is round and the game lasts for 90 minutes. If only the quality of the Quakes' finishing was as high as that of these photos taken by our friends over at Sharkspage, we might have had a game to attend on Saturday.
Our favorite is one that's not included in the main gallery, but we're partial to photos of Kevin Hartman watching the ball sail by him and into the net. Kind of like this one from 2001:

UPDATE: Our friends at Yellow Card Journalism have also posted photos of Saturday night's game.

What can we say at this point- Every player, coach, and fan feels the same way: We should be playing 2 more matches and hoisting another trophy! BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY WE WANT TO HAVE A TEAM! If in some miniscule way, San Jose bowing out early accelerates the actions necessary to KEEP THE TEAM in the South Bay then I will be happy despite our surprise exit from the playoffs-
This team was never going to do anything but go full out...Its easy to say "why couldn't the FLAT game have come the last week of the regular season?!" But then, no incredible DeRo goal! That shot heard 'round the soccer world was from another world! Every season more milestones are accomplished- the Supporter's Shield and many team and league records; so next season, we can aim for our first US Open Cup Championship and regardless of the ups and downs of the season another opportunity to propel ourselves through the playoffs to another Cup title! A little more health and we probably would have started the winning run even sooner!
Aside from saving the team by increasing attendence yet again, the incredible play of our team made this the greatest season to be a fan- a new hero every week from a pool of players who GAVE IT THEIR ALL every week!
SAN JOSE SAN JOSE SAN JOSE!
and let's hear it for the 25 or so Casbah fanatics who stayed on for an extra 20 minutes after the match celebrating and serenading the best team in North America!

There are some really good photos there. I like the one of the East stand and the yellow cards:
